RL transmission lubes are GL4 like everyone else's and diff lubes are GL5 like everyone else's. GL6 is considered an obsolete designation.
Thanks Cdelena!

Yeah, some questionable information. The Honda recommended lube for the diff is 90 weight, not 75W90 as stated. The 85W140 will not be too heavy, it will be just fine.

The change that was stated for the transmission (75W85 GL-4) is harder to know since the numbers quoted are probably the sheer rating and may not indicate the flow rate.. if it shifts ok it probably will be ok as well.

Actually, the Honda recommended lube is 75W90, 80W90 or SAE90. Honda is where this came from.

Honda also recommends washing your car with either car wash gel or dish washer detergent .

So what is the difference between GL5 and GL6? Is it just a difference in additives, or quality?

You guys can post that damn thing as many times as you like.. it is only because the factory recommendation of 90W does not jive with the lubes available in the marketplace in the US that AHM scrambled and said.. oh yeah, 75-90, 80-90, is close enough.. and it is (so is the 85-140).

GL6 was a spec that has been dropped and is covered by GL5 now. There are still a few custom lubricants that are blended to the GL6 spec and they tend to be expensive and slippery EP lubes. I don't think there is any real benefit for us.

The Helm's manual also says the same thing that Chris is saying: SAE 90W hypoid gear oil, API classification GL5 or GL6.
