FIY: I am retrofitting my ap1 ballast on ap2 right now, and it is not necessary to cut into the ap2 headlights at all, even to fit the D2S locking connector through the smaller round hole. All you need to do is disassemble the the black housing on the D2S connector, and the pins can be popped out so that you may easily feed the wires through, and re-assemble afterwards.

Kind of late to the conversation but do you recall from your work if the AP1 headlight should fit an AP2 car? I'm thinking about putting AP1 headlights on my ap2 but don't see any examples of people doing this, mainly putting AP2 on AP1
