I made my own oil filter lock fairly easily before going on a trackday the other week
Just go to the hardware store and get a pipe hub coupler that will fit around your oil filter and the oil cooler
Trim the coupler so that it will fit around the oil filter and oil cooler's plumbing so that it locks the filter like so
Best thing of all it cost less than $7

No oil filters loosening on me anytime soon!

what is the point of this mod?

why would the filter loosen on you if you tighten it to spec?

I do a lot of lurking in the track forums and no one ever brings this up

 

I am going to Lowes tomorrow and checking this out. Seems like a great idea.

Its cheap insurance. I've done countless oil changes and never had a filter come loose. But if it does happen in our motors it will start a fire. The oil filter is so close to the exhaust manifold your car will burn to the ground unless you have a fire extinguisher on hand. Spending 5$ for this is one less thing to worry about...

Oh and nobody thinks they install their oil filter wrong yet it does happen. And if you trust someone else to do it you should double check their work too.

be careful - make sure the coupling rubber can handle the oil temperatures!

 

I wish oil filter manufacturers would be smart like K&N/Purolator and put some type of grip or hex on the end of the filter. The sandpaper grip on Purolator is awesome unlike OEM Honda which is essentially teflon coated

 

When was the last time someone had their oil filter back off?

I inspected it today and the rubber part of the coupler shows no heat damage after coming from Thunderhill
the circled part is important as that side interferes with the oil coolers plumbing if the oil filter ever backs off
the two hose clamps should also prevent that from happening though

I know this mod is not necessary but it makes me sleep better at night

 

Any racer will tell you to safety wire your oil filter & drain bolt at a minimum. It's a safety thing

 

Buy a 3/8" drive filter socket for your filter. I step it up to 1/2" drive. No problems getting it on and off to spec.
