be careful - make sure the coupling rubber can handle the oil temperatures!

here is a better pic of my oil filter lock
I inspected it today and the rubber part of the coupler shows no heat damage after coming from Thunderhill
the circled part is important as that side interferes with the oil coolers plumbing if the oil filter ever backs off
the two hose clamps should also prevent that from happening though

I know this mod is not necessary but it makes me sleep better at night
sounds great. I know what you mean, when I first got the S and read about te potential problems, I ended up marking the top of the filter and every time I checked oil levels, checked the filter to see if it had backed off. After about a year or so with no backing off (diff filters), I said "screw it" and I never checked it again...but I don't drive it on the track either.

I wish oil filter manufacturers would be smart like K&N/Purolator and put some type of grip or hex on the end of the filter. The sandpaper grip on Purolator is awesome unlike OEM Honda which is essentially teflon coated
Buy a 3/8" drive filter socket for your filter. I step it up to 1/2" drive. No problems getting it on and off to spec.

Same here, when you install the filter with a torque wrench you will find it requires more force than might be expected to get it to the factory recommended torque spec. I suspect that in most cases where the oil filter has backed off on somebody's s2k, they tightened by hand (or maybe an ordinary 3/8" drive) until it felt "tight enough" instead of using a torque wrench.

No need to torque it. Just do like it says on the filter. Screw it down until it makes contact. Look at the number facing you and screw the filter tighter seven digits. Perfect seal, with perfect metal contact.

The OE filter has both a torque spec and an angle spec.

This
Edit: Kick a** idea for the filter lock though. If I tracked my car I'd more than likely do something of the sort.

Look at the filter closer next time. You'll see the numbers.
