Default Does an AP2 tranny fit in a AP1?

It all began with a leaking tranny front seal a year ago. This time, I have another leak and the dealer replaced the seal again. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem, now they want me to replace the tranny. It seems strange that I have to replace the tranny because a seal has failed, but since they say that although the leak was coming from the front seal area, that there has to be some sort of internal problem that causes the seal to leak. I've been told by several people, that the dealership probably didn't install the seal properly, but since I don't want to pay someone else to take the tranny down again and replace the seal and find that the leak still exist, I'm thinking about going with a new tranny. If I'm going to replace the tranny, I was thinking about replacing it with the AP2 tranny, with the carbon fibre syncros. Are they interechangeable and does it make any sense?

The syncro's were updated on the AP1 transmissions as well. not on the production line, but in the spare parts. I.E. if you bought a new gear set for your AP1 tranny, they came with the updated syncros. So that leads me to believe they updated the assemblies too. However if you buy a used tranny, odds are the syncros are the same on the AP1 as when it left the factory. Only the NEW trannys from the dealer should be updated.

To use the AP2 tranny on the AP1 I have heared you also need the AP2 rear output flange.

No. you take your ap1 rear flange off your ap1 trans and put it on the ap2 trans.

So you are certain, the AP2 will definately fit into the AP1, I just have to use the AP1 rear flange.

I didn't connect, now I know about you. I'm the guy in Kentucky that has the front tranny seal leak. Dave had a discussion with you about it. I do appreciate your feedback. If I lived within a few hours of New York, I'd be on your doorstep right now. Honda says I have to replace the tranny and it looks like I don't have alot of alternatives. Locally, I can't find anyone who rebuilds them, so I'd be stuck with a used unit.
