Does JDM F20C use 93 octane?
#11
I swapped a JDM Engine F20c into my car in Oregon. Highest octane available from Chevron here is also 91 octane.
Everything works great, makes solid power, and because of higher compression, there is much better response compared to my old motor, not to mention I can climb hills with high grades in like 5th gear. But my engine did have something like 240+ compression.
Things you need to make sure:
- use a USDM VTEC SOLENOID. THE JDM one has different wiring and is no good.
- use a USDM WIRING HARNESS. The JDM one has different wire for fuel pump - and you car once started will use the fuel pressure in the lines and then die, since the fuel pump isn't running.
- use USDM Spark plug Coils.
- use USDM ECU.
I don't feel the engine hesitating at all in hot/cold weather. I did have an issue with using the coils from the JDM engine where it would cut out at 7-8000 RPM, but I swapped my old coils and it went away.
Basically, baller engine, pulls like a beast. Higher compression means higher torquey feeling. Much Much better response down low.
If you really want the new car experience, get new coils from honda for the 2004 year, and it will be around 200, but man. Does it purr, and pull like crazy.
The coils tend to not be as efficient with miles on them, and I instantly could tell the difference when I installed the new coils.
