I missed a shift from 3-2 instead of 3-4. It was obvious when I next cranked the engine that I'd bent valves. I limped it home 5 hours from the track (which is why I have a trailer now) . I DIDN'T have any CEL's and DID have bent valves so, a CEL isn't a great symptom. They were just slightly bent. I ran the rest of the session with the damaged valves and couldn't even tell. It's when I asked it to idle that the problem became apparent.
Honda engines are tough. I imagine if had been any other engine I would have blown it.
I question whether you actually over-revved it. I wouldn't be surprised if locking the wheels up and sliding protected the engine from an over-rev. In my case the tach pegged so, it was obvious.

Anyway, I was at about 60mph or around 8-8500 rpm when I put it in 1st.
Sorry I don't mean to hijack your post but I kinda am in the same situation.
I went from 5th at about 50-60mph into 2nd gear for bout 1-2 sec and redlined it... what does 2nd gear run up to anyways as in MPH?? I was trying to get into 4th btw.

See if you can find a thread on this subject by David1. He overrevved at the track, drove it about 3 hours home, drove it about 2 hours to his preferred dealership, and then posted pictures of the valve spring retainer within about 0.25 mm of coming of the valve stem. That would have had catastrophic results.
I'd visually check all of the valve spring retainers, at a minimum.

Your probably fine. If everybody who overreved thier engines took it back to the dealer or some other shop to check the engine there would'nt be an s2k on the road and honda could never sell them. These engines are very tough: I should know I've worked on them for 30 years. But if it will make you feel better I,m sure someone will be glad to take your money and tell you the same thing.
I would take a look at the retainers just in case.... I did about the same thing ...yeah it lasted about 3 months but then I droped a valve and I wasn't even pushing it hard. $9750.00 and 10 months later I had a new engine. Might want to check it out if I were you.
Thanks guy for all the reply. I think I am going to open up my valve cover and do a visually check all of the valve spring retainers. I am just wondering if I need to get a new valve cover gasket or can I just re-use the old one?

What tools and skills are needed to check the retainers?
(Hint: It's only slightly harder than checking the oil level.)
What's it going to cost for the guy to pull the cover and take a look?
