Default Driver side window goes down in "stages"

So when I switch the top-down button to put the top down, the passenger side window goes all the way down. The driver's side window, however, only goes down a bit. If I press top-down again, it goes down another few inches. So on and so forth. After about 3 or 4 pressings, it will then go all the way down.

This strikes me as pretty odd. Curious if folks have seen this before and if any easy DIY solutions are available.

Thanks,

D

mine does this too. you can try to reset the "auto down" button by pressing the button down for 5 sec while the window is all the way down, press and hold the button up when the window is up. do this a couple of times tends to reset it and it should work.

now mine will be reset for 1-2 times and then go back to the problem described above.

Ah, I didn't equate that with the convertible top but as someone else suggested, it might be what I need. Having read that other post, I see:

"most of use the little tube thingy to put inside the back rear window to prevent the window from wrinkling, and in the process of putting it down we stop the top halfway."

What's the "little tube thingy" he's talking about. I normally just hop out of the car and manually push the plastic window into a curved position to promote proper folding. It "kinda" works. Is there a "tube thingy" I don't know about?

I don't know what the tube thingy is since I don't have a plastic window, but I guess my problem started because i often open the top half way when i'm cleaning it and to dress all the rubber seals with rubber protectant.

Wow, I just did it. It works! To be honest "the fix" is pretty damn hysterical. Either that or sheer (fault tolerant) engineering genius.

Meh. The fix doesn't hold. Seems as long as you need to do the separate:

1. open top 1/2 way
2. insert neck pillow into plastic window
3. fold down top the rest of the way

method, the window keeps setting itself back to "staged" rolldown. ;-(
