Ebay snorkel
I purchased a snorkel off ebay from a seller in japan (racing raven) for about 95 dollars shipped. I found the fitment to be HORRIBLE as I had to cut many slots in the portion that rests in the grill. After many hours and lots of cutting, I got it to fit quite well. For 95 dollars I guess its not bad but I was wondering if anyone else had experiences with these ebay snorkels. On a better note I seem to have some improved throttle response.

I've actually had an ebay snorkel on my car for over a year now. It cost me $80 after shipping from Hong Kong. I didn't have to cut anything on the front grill. It did improve my throttle response much like a hondata gasket did. You do lose top end power however. We have a dyno out our shop and we tested my 2000 vs a 2005 S2K. If your going to stay NA...I would get a AEM V2 or ITB. But that is just 2 cents.

Yeah...but instead of cutting the grill I put the stock filter cover on it compress the snorkel down further. Thus bending the plastic grill alittle...but NO cutting. Hood didn't want to close.....so I losen the metal latch scoot it up a bit and waaaalahh. NO problems.

My 2000 S2K lost top end with the snorkel. The 2005 was completely stock(not even 10,000 miles). The 2005 put down 189 rwhp and mine put down 183 rwhp. On my dyno line, my hp kept falling off between 7500 and 8500 rpm. So we took out my snorkel and opened up the stock airbox as if i had a short ram intake on the car (granted every pull we did before this one, the stock airbox was closed and i had the Dyno fan aimed directly into my snorkel. My stock airbox is not modified at all) I saw gaines across the entire powerband starting around 3500 rpms all the way to redline. The biggest gain i saw was about 8 hp around 8000 rpms. I work at a tunershop and we have a dyno. We do stuff like this all the time. We have a Dyno Dynamics dynometer.

Unless your in Europe or Japan a 2005 has a 2.2L vs your 2.0L. The 2.2L officially makes more torque and unofficially is known to make a little more horse power. Plus each car varies. You can't compare two different cars (even 2 MY00) accurately. You should have done a before and after dyno if you really wanted to conclude anything.

Your right. One is a 2.0L and the other a 2.2L. The 2.2 did make more torque then the 2.0 which it is supposed to from the factory. I was just explaining what happened when i put my car on the dyno with a snorkel. Maybe i gave too much info when i said we did a 2.2L right after that. My Bad.

The only thing we could come up with is that you were limiting the amount of air the filter was allowed to get by only the outlet of the snorkel that goes into the stock airbox. This is a little restrictive when compared to the open filter element of a cold air intake. Ofcourse we don't have a wind tunnel dyno so this may not be the case in real life on the street. The fan was blowing a constant amount of air into the snorkel but it couldn't increase as the car went faster as it could on the open road.
