Unhappy elimination is the name of the game..

yes, sorry another topic on noise..
just wanted to get peoples thoughts if i'm on the right track..

since having a 27k service (tappets adjusted)..
i have felt the car is definitely not as quiet as it was.. i have been assured the tappets have been adjusted bang on tolerances
it defintely sounds as though the tct is a bit noisey at start up but this is pretty identifiable and i have a replacement on the way
it is defintely a metalic type tappety noise and is more profound when having been on a v-tec run
i did run with the airbox lid off for a bit just to have fun with the noise, but going to sort either prm or password jdm me thinks
the car does get driven fairly hard, but thats half the fun of having an S and don't think i'm doing anything out of the ordinary there..

my thoughts are to do the following:

- swap out the mobil1 0w-40w with either silkonlene, amsoil or the castrolTD, invest in a magnetic drain plug as it seems sensible...
- put in the new tct
- get the tappets checked again and possibly get them to the tighter tolerences 0.008" intake 0.010" exhaust
- see if this has sorted it..

anyone think of anything else or is my tact along the right lines..
cheers all

if tappets means valve adjustments.

get someone reputable to to do the valve adjustment again.

The engine must have sat unstarted at least for a few hours, it has to be all at room temp. That's the right way to adjust valves. Also, try to be on the loose side of adjustment range rather than tight.

Is it only noisy when cold? If yes, then it's all normal. If noisy when hot, then...

sounds over noisy hot and cold... the tell tale sign is that it was much quieter before it went in for it's 27k (+tappets) service at honda...
