Default Is the Engine Immobilizer really a theft deterrant

Just wondering if the original eguipment immobilizer is effective against car theives.
They always seem 2 steps ahead of technology.
I was thinking of installing a fuel cutoff switch, or is that a waste of time?

If another fuel cutoff switch would prevent your car from being loaded on a flatbed, no.

If not, yes.

I have yet to read of anyone getting their car hotwired. I believe the primary method is with a flatbed. A fuel cutoff switch won't prevent that.

Security in regards the the actual car? Yes.
Security in regards to your parts, valuables left in car? No.

How I see it is, anything that makes a thief (thieves) stay 10 seconds longer trying to steal something is a deterrent.

As far as a kill switch I think that's a good step. What you should do is invest in a 2-way alarm with a hidden install, back up battery and siren, tilt sensor, GPS tracking, etc...
