I'm about to do first oil change in my S and if there really is testing that shows a "best" oil I'd like to know. If it's just opinions then I already have my own.
Thanks
Steve

I use the 15W50 because of the turbo and I have a full built race motor that's sleeved... At least from what I've been told it's a good fit..... If someone knows different lemme know and I'll swap! =/
I currently favor Havoline's new GF-4 10w30. I also like LE 8130. I constantly review and analyse new formulations, and the new crop of GF-4 minoils really are hard to beat. There are advantages actually to minoils (which really are synblends these days) unless you are at the extremes of hot and cold. Both the Havoline and LE 8130 are synblends. One advantage is that the add packs have higher solubility in minoils, and seem to become effective at lower oil temps (below 200 degF). Unless you are going for extended drain intervals, where the h9igher TBN's of synoils come into play, I do not see any advantage anymore.
The gap that once existed between mins and syns is so narrow now, that I am distressed by the "hype" I read about synoils - the base stocks they use in the syns are marginally more expensive, but they charge 3-4x the price. Anyone else smell a rat? I have studied this topic professionally as later as an interested amateur heavily connected to performance engineering, racing, and lubrication science.
So I do not make these statements off the top of my head or out my butthole.
The buyijg public seems to have bought into the whole notion that syns vastly outperform minoils, and the marketing and profitability are cashing in.
Yet, some of the lowest wear analyses and highest TFOUT studies I have ever seen were from Havoline GF-4 and LE 8130.

What I like about Havoline GF-4 is, it is available at Walmart, Target, Pepboys, Kragen, ...
LE oil is not easily found at local autopart stores.
I may use Havoline GF-4 in my S for 6 months/3750 miles OCI, but I will stick with Mobil1 for 2 other cars with 12K miles/1 year OCI.
