Engine overheating from idling

I think you most likely have bubble in you cooling system.
This prob sat on your fanswitch and cause error reading the temp (ie lower than what it should be) and caused overheating.

Try flushing the bubble out.

The other thing you should check also is your fanswitch relay.

Just fill it to the max marker with distilled water.

Can I full the resevior back to the full line with Honda coolant? Or do I need to mix it with distilled water?

Friend, adding plain water to a tank in Oklahoma in winter is crusing for a cracked overflow reservoir, or at least diluted coolant.

I think given the nature of your questions that you should go to a Honda dealer, buy a gallon of Type 2 coolant, and fill the reservoir to the point shown in the manual.

Get in your car, point it nose up on a small incline, start the car, turn on the heater, and let the car warm up - then cut it off when you are done, let it cool, and check levels again. This should remove any residual air, makes sure you have a safe fill, and get you all shipshape.

I had the same problem with two other cars. Both cases it was the fan switch relay!
