Engine rattle when pulling off the gas..?
Hi S2Ki members, great site!
I am wondering if anyone has had this problem..?
The rattle (or tapping sound) only happens periodically. And only when slowing down from hard acceleration. For example, Accelerate in 4th to 80, then let off the accelerator (but clutch still engaged). The engine make a tapping sound that is much louder than the usual noise of the engine.
Anyone know what could cause this? Oil is fine, no loss of power, and otherwise everything is running fine. My car is a 2000 reg with 34k on the clock...
Thanks
Iain

This is one of the oldest issues reported here. There is a TSB for this if you have the appropriate model year of car.
It's not your engine, it's the clutch disc springs that make this rattle. It's the famous deceleration clutch buzz. It's only a noise and doesn't affect the function of the clutch in any way. Honda has been known to fix this under the TSB (tech service bulletin) if an owner is insistent on it. However, most fixes are not permanent and the noise comes back shortly thereafter.
