Thumbs up Engine Rattle ?

Guys,

Can anyone throw any light onto my new engine rattle.

My 04 has now done 3000 miles and yesterday I noticed that the engine gives out a slight rattle type noise when out of gear and the clutch is de pressed.

The moment I press on the clutch the noise disapears.

The the rattle appears when I turn off the engine and the engine makes quite a rattle when shutting down.

I dont know if this has anything to do with a vibration noise I constatly get but whenever I apply any extra power through the accelerator I get a irritating vibration noise coming from what sounds like the left side of the car.

Any ideas ?

Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated.

It's either your clutch release bearing wearing out or more likely to be the springs in the clutch itself. Over time these compress and rattle in the housing. As long as the clutch isn't slipping then it's ok, just annoying, otherwise get a new (uprated) clutch to get rid of the problem.

I have it on my S2k and lots of others have it too. I had the same on my Integra and my last 3 FTO's and the only solution to get rid of the annoying rattle was a new clutch. If it's an 04 then take it back and get a new clutch under warranty (but leave it as long as possible to get th most use out of the clutch you have ;-))

Regards

Rob

It's very likely to be the heatshield over the exhaust manifold. It's comprised of several pieces and any one of them can work loose and cause the rattling. There isn't much clearance there at the best of times, when it's loose it can drive you nuts. I'd get your dealer to look at it.

It's not gonna be the heatshield, cos that won't change when you press the clutch..
