I would buy an engine that has miles similar to what your car has at the moment. It has more than double the miles compared to what your odometer reads. If you have an engine with much higher miles it may end up being a problem if you ever decide to part ways with the vehicle. I am not sure how you feel about your car but mine has a lot of sentimental value and I would not compromise on a major component just for the sake of running the car again. I know you fitted the clutch because you had plans to go the F1 route and I would still approach the rebuild with that in mind.
If time is not an issue I would just wait and see if something good pops up. 6k for an engine with supposedly almost 100k miles is outrageous imo. It is worth 4k tops. I have seen a few sub 40k mile engines for that price but they sell quick. Good luck

Very well spoken. Since I originally installed the last engine with ACT PP to go FI, I've purchased a 991.2 Porsche so my itch for a (very) fast sports car has been scratched. My current desire is to restore the car to stock and drive it (and have my wife drive it). I'm not in a big hurry to do this, but it's already been quite a journey from when the car ran well with the OEM motor and I have the space, lift and tools to move forward.
$6k for a used motor with over twice the miles as my car is pretty outrageous, but the car does have sentimental value to me and I'd really like to experience the satisfaction of getting the car back on the road in a reliable way. Based on my personal situation, I don't see driving it more than 4k miles a year and I'm 63 yo so if the car could give me say 50k of so of reliable miles, I'd feel like it was worth the time and money to resurrect it.

Do I have that right? If so, is the hone job one that any reputablr machine shop with the SM manual instructions should be able tqo do? Thanks for your patience with me.
Inline Pro, Kings, 4piston, Total Seal could all probably hone it although I imagine they all have substantial wait times. If the bores aren't scratched and measure out fine, I wouldn't even bother with any type of honing.
