Engine shims?
Figure out what alternator they put on that car. A new OEM Honda alt. is very expensive, so if you didn't $600 for the part, it is likely they put a cheap replacement on there. This issue you are having could be related to the TCT, idler gear, or inadequate valve clearances. Is the motor stock? I agree with everyone above, find someone else to help you out that knows more about the s2000
Running the engine for 10 seconds without the belt will confirm all belt driven sources are (or are not) your problem.
The amount of bad alternator bearings I have seen or read about in an S2000 in 13 years is zero.
There are no such thing as engine shims in an S2000.
I wouldn't pay for your repair until you actually confirm the car is repaired.
If the repair shop says we can't give you the keys until the bill is paid, ask to be taken for a ride in the car.
