You can pull the starter and clean and regrease it. Typically will fix it. I think after a while though the spring gets weak in it. Really does not hurt much though. In the interim before you try fixing it, just release the start button a hair sooner, it will generally keep it from happening Generally also will go away after the car warms up. Usually is worst on cold starts.

Every. Year.

...when weather starts to get cold, people show up asking about this issue (I was once one of them!)

I didn't even listen to recording, and kinda assumed it was gonna be this issue. That time of year.

Just part of how this car is warm blooded. Not made for cold. Kinda embarrassing sometimes, soundslike something is really wrong. But almost all of our cars will do it. Cold grease.

It's not just S2000s. My son's CV-R (2014) does it. Several ppl at work have Toyotas and Hondas that do it. Regreasing with good all-temp grease fixes 95% of them.
