Default engine stuck in cold idle mode?

Alrighty, the car has thrown a check engine light, (hence the post below about getting data loggers...) and the behavior is that the engine will idle at about 2500 RPM, and it surges there with about a 500 RPM window. Makes it a true pain in the keister to drive, let me tell you. Anyway, I was curious if anyone esle had experienced this and what might have cured it. Thanks in advance,

Glenn

Get the code. We have no idea without it.

gotta get the reader first... Didn't know if it was a familiar problem that I might have overlooked.

Get the code. Sounds like the Idle Air Control valve. Search "IAC" after you get the code.
If it's the IAC and it has thrown a DTC, It'll most likely need replacing. Could try cleaning it and clearing the DTC first to see if the problem returns, but I think once they code they are kinda shot and the problem will return in a short time.

If it is the IAC, it's not a big deal to clean or replace yourself. I think there is more than one writeup/DIY here. I don't remember how much the part was $100.00 to $120.00 maybe (from memory).

Good Luck.

SenderGreen, I bet that is exactly what the problem is. All the classic sypmtoms, shut it off, restart, and it's good to go. I will have to pull that dirty, dirty, part and make it clean again.

Check the code first. It's important to know for sure.
