Default Enough pressure to back out gas cap?

So the S has been sitting for a few weeks and I recently topped it off with a gas can to keep moisture from building up in the tank. Came home tonight to the smell of gas in the garage and found the gas cap to be completely loose! Just wondering if this is something I need to check periodically as the S isn't tagged and will be sitting until the next track day.

mine use to back out by itself all the time and throw a CEL code. For a while, I made it a habit to retighten it maybe every week. AFter several months, it kinda just stopped and has been ok ever since. I guess my case was pretty random

I had the same issue when my car was new. The CEL would come on and I'd find the gas cap loose. There was a TSB on this - TSB 04-002 which fixed the problem by replacing the fuel filler tube. The dealer did it for free. It was caused by the wrong pitch on the threads on the fuel filler tube on '02 and '03 cars, iirc. Do a search. There's plenty of info on the issue.

I had a faulty fuel filler pipe and my cap wouldn't thread in properly, it never came loose though. I replaced the pipe and never had an issue again.

Im now thinking it might be my lawn mower Moved the S outside for the evening and left the garage doors opened for a few hours. Smell dissipated by 11PM, so I closed the doors and the smell was back by morning.

Yep...turned out to be a busted gas tank on the mower. Time to break out the JB Weld
