Last year at some point I had to remove my shift knob that was on with lock-tite. After fighting with it for a few minutes I finally got it off. I noticed my shift knob was spinning after this and just wrote it off as being stripped. However, the other day I realized it is not just the shift knob that spins, but the whole entire shifter spins with it.
Has this been damaging my car at all with this not being "locked" in place over the past year? How can I fix this?
Thanks for the reply. Got around to taking the console cover off and found that the metal shaft is separated from the rubber bushing part (as you guessed). Here are some pictures to make sure we are talking about the same thing:
You can certainly just get a used, complete shaft. From the threaded end the knob screws onto to the opposite end that fits into the trans with the white plastic swivel. Just bolts in.
But I should think the right adhesive would be faster, cheaper, easier. Worst case it doesn't work and you have to find a used shaft anyway. So worth a try with glue.
@bkowa092 How were you able to fix this issue? I ran into the same issue today after attempting to remove my shift knob .
Any chance you can give me clear steps on what you did?

Just get an indestructable new or used oem shifter.
