Engine braking is affected by displacement and size of pistions, not compression ratio. A big V8 will have stronger engine braking than a tiny 4 banger.

actually what your original question alludes to.......LEARN TO HEEL AND TOE DOWNSHIFT!!!!!, double clutch technique also....the doub-cltch is obviously NOT technically required, xcept for the inherent 1-2 synchro grind our cars unfortunately have(i know its typically manifest on the UPSHIFT!), BUT, for what ever combination of physics, engineering and whathaveyou, the car behaves even better(dare i say perfect) going down gears while visiting neutral than simply revmatching. its probably because of the long rpm range and relative "light flywheel" characteristics, but it allows butter smooth, snatch free(not that kind, thank goodness) gear transitions. try it....u will never go back......and its tres cool doing it!

hmmm, xcuse me nonetheless......why are u taking your foot OFF the accelerator, are u getting a foot massage from your hitchhiker, or working on a corn? i would recommend keeping it planted, and u will notice this "problem" will completely dissappear....i think its TSB 007, or something like that.
