Exedy Hyper Single with CDV
Hi guys, I just got a used Exedy Hyper Single for my 07 S2000.
Hope you guys can help me with a few questions:
1) Must I remove the CDV? Since it protects the diff by slipping the clutch I assume leaving it on will also slip my hyper single?
2) I am looking for a replacement 6-puck clutch disc but could not find any part numbers on exedy website. My local agent quoted me quite expensive cause he claims it is S2000 specific. I assume all the 6-pucks should be universal?
Any inputs will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I drove a car with this installed once. It was like a switch. Very hard to slip. It would chatter instead of slip. What the CDV will do, I don't know. but you can already remove it after you isntalled the clutch if you need/want to.
No, clutch disks are not universal.
No, Why do you think you need a new clutch, let anlone a race clutch like this on you 2007 car?

Thanks for the reply, I used to have drive with a twin-plate and super single on my previous FD3S and am mentally prepared for the torturous drive
My stock clutch is slipping quite badly already though it's only slightly over a year old. Since I need to replace the disc either way I thought I would do an upgrade. I wanted to go with a after pressure plate and flywheel but my friend sold me the hyper single for like USD$500 so i reckon it was quite a good buy

You should invest in a better pp and maybe lighter flywheel to reduce slip imo. The CDV is not the main problem. Most AP2 owners here are happiest with the stock clutch disk, OEM or AP1 flywheel, and ACT pp.
Yes, 500 is a good deal on that setup, but you are going to need the proper replacement disk. So since you got a good deal on the PP and Flywheel, bit the bullet and pay up for the right disk. In the end you shold still be better then it would have cost you need. The labor to install the setup will be about the same as the parts you just bought, if not more. Do it right the first time.

You can install any clutch and not mess with the CDV. It isn't even a part of the actual clutch. It is in the clutch slave cylinder (AP2 only) which sits just outside of the transmission and you can get to it with the car up on jack stands if you decide to remove the CDV.
It can be a bit of a PITA to remove, so some people simple swap out to an AP1 slave cylinder, if you run across a great deal on one.
