Exhaust/intake question
I know very little about the mechanics of the S2000 or any car for that matter. I have a stock S2000 and plan to change intake and the exhaust and most likely nothing else.
With the various intakes are there any recommendations on if one is better than another?
As far as exhaust this is a little more involved......
I have read about headers, catylic converters, test pipes, down pipes, resonators, mufflers etc..... I have heard many cars with the big exhausts and sound horrible, they sound just like my lawnmower.... I am looking for a more powerful exhaust sound. I like the sound of the S2000 at higher RPM's and I have heard an NSX with no cat and a header and it sounded sweet. The s2000 is somewhat quiet at lower RPM's and idle which I would like to make louder. Oh also I enjoy the sound of the muscle cars, and flowmaster.
What parts can I replace from the headers to the mufflers that will help me gain the sound I am looking for. As far as how loud I wanna get, well that depends, but if its gonna be loud I want it to sound good. I am used to driving in older camaro's and roadrunners that when they idle all the cars at the gas station rumble....
If I remove the cat will I fail emissions? I also would like to try and keep the stock look from the outside, meaning the mufflers, so is there anyways I can change the other parts and get a good sound.
Sorry for the extensive post, I honestly do not know much about this in the S2000, I am looking for some input from the more knowledgeable members so that I may be able to learn.
Being that I have no clue what I am talking about hope I didnt contradict any of my statements, if I did let me know so I can clarify it, and I know comparing S2000 and muscle cars is totally unfair, V8 to the 4 cylinder is completely different....
I thank you for your time in advance
JP

If you remove the cat, you will fail emissions, if only for the visual inspection, but I doubt it would pass a sniffer. It is my PERSONAL opinion that bypassing the cat on a modern car is socially irresponsible for a street-driven car; the amount of power lost in the cats of today is tiny as well.
You might want to consider first removing the resonator, and see how that changes the exhuast note - that is cheap, and easy to undo.
As to which one, since exhuast note is a very subjective thing, you might want to search on topic, as many people have taken the time to write in detail about the systems they bought - one guy herre has been through 4 systems!

Thanks for the info, I think I have an idea at what I should be tryingt o find out.
What does changing header do? add horsepower? change the sound? add torque? make better exhaust flow? all of the above?
Thanks
JP
