The shop paid the core charge and gave me the engine. They definitely made the best of a bad situation. He never questioned it. He said it was only the 2nd in 15k repairs that his shop was at fault. I am now a lifetime customer. I now know that my vehicles will allows get the best treatment possible!!!

HOLY CRAP you came up on this.

i would definitely name the shop here for a good review, they went ABOVE and BEYOND. they basically made you whole and then gave you a perfectly fine engine for free.

i was going to say, no need to pull the head off of the engine, you can inspect parts with just removing the valve cover.

holy smokes, which shop is this again?

If it was under power went the oil light came on then that means the crank was riding on the bearings. If you took a bore gauge to the main bearings and possibly the rod bearings you will more than likely see its very out-of-round. Replacing bearings is cheap.

Default engine rebuild update

Once we got the engine apart we did find some damage to the #2 & 3 main bearings. Engine was seconds away from being destroyed! They just started to get hot. All Journals and cylinder walls were still in perfect condition. The crank out of alignment by 2 thousands, which was easily straightened. Everything else from top to bottom is in perfect shape shape.

Thanks for the follow up.

A coworker had an S2000 blow its engine under similar circumstances. Not sure why the oil drained in his case, but he didn't stop immediately and less than two minutes later it was seized.
