Default Failed power steering

The power steering on my 2001 just went out. 4600 mile. I was drving back to work, the power steering went and the esp light came on. Took the car to the Dealer (Kendall Honda on Eugene Oregon) They thought it was a controll. Kendall oreder the part. Today they installed the controller. Power steering still not working. Kendall does not know wha the problem is. Has anyone else experianced this problem? Any insights?

If you can find out what diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) were reported by the on board diagnostic system (OBD) I may have a few ideas. Specifically, ask the dealer, are codes 21, 22 or 23 shown on the PGM? Did they reset the Torque Sensor Neutral Position in the EEPROM after they replaced the EPS Control Unit?
Does the steering work at about 5 MPH (actually 6.2 MPH) after they changed the unit? Is the dealer sure their PGM is compatable with the model and year of your car?

PM me as I may not follow this thread later.

I just talked to the service tech. He will follow-up on your questions. He said that they were not getting information from the car's computer. Thanks for the help. I will keep you posted

They are now closed. I think said they are not getting any information on the computer. They did give me a loaner. Hope they can fix it Monday. It is hard to believe there computer is not up to date or they are not trained to fix a car they sell.

PS. Class of 65. Two kid Class of 99

You'll be amazed how much they don't know about the car. Every time I bring mine in with a problem, they can't figure it out and then I hear those same words "We called the Honda Techline for help. Your car won't be ready today. Sorry."

I hope that they figure what's going on with your car. When they do, could you update us with as much specific information as possible? This is the first I've heard of the steering failure. Although, I may be mistaken.

Thanks,

Got my car back today. They said it was a wire, controller and computer problem. I think that there was a bad wire to the contoller unit. When they changed the controller unit, nothing was read by the computer beasue of the bad wire. Last week end, I tried to hard wire my passport 8500. I asked if caused the proble. They said no. I am now thinking about getting and extended warrenty. The service manager said it might not be a bad idea. This repair was a $650 warrenty job (no cost to me)
