it's mounted by mini bungee cords and is solid and secure for driving, but obviously needs to be hard mounted. i like it better than on the passenger footwell crossbrace, where it can impede ingress but fits good.
If it is mounted between the seat and the crossbrace it does not impede ingress/egress or any other sort of movement in any way.

I've done it in the passenger footwell. Bend a piece of steel/Aluminum to follow the contour of the floor between the two front bolts that hold the seat rails. Then "T" off the middle of that piece of metal. Mount the extinguisher to that fore/aft piece of metal - this makes it possible for a passenger to still use that seat.

Also, no additional holes drilled.

Standard equipment on mine when I bought the car, didn't even requested it while mounted inside the boot on the left hand side. Doesn't affect any boot space and most certainly free-of-charge. Common practice in Japan for dealerships to throw in essential extras if you're a regular or valued customer. Just a way to increase product / brand / purchasing loyalty.

In the US, some driving schools require it to be reachable from the driver's seat...

I keep mine under the passenger seat. I'm paranoid so I want it in reach quickly.
