Flywheel resurfacing questions???
I just had TSB 00-054 (clutch buzz) done to my car (21,000 miles) and the service techs did not resurface the flywheel before they installed the new clutch disc.
I'm not sure as to what kind of condition the flywheel was in but I'm thinking it needed to be resurfaced after 21K miles. Will this adversely affect how the disc mates to the flywheel? Can/will the flywheel still seat properly? Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks for the help guys.

good luck.. i had the tsb done 5k miles ago and my clutch, pressure plate and flywheel was completely destroyed. i never beat on my car as the DSM stated no do i race my car. i have spoken with a few people on how i could possable burn though the clutch and they state the only reason this could have happened was because my flywheel was scored before and the new clutch did not seat properly
- i did a lot of research on this and it seems 1/2 the folks that got the tsb done the dealer also changed the flywheel and pressure plate
save your money because it cost me $1,500.00 yesterday oh and the DSM also stated that the tsb is only warrenteed to the orig warrantee of 36k

How bad do you think the flywheel was (21k)? Any chance I can get the dealer to take it apart and resurfce it? Maybe claim that something wasn't done right? Anymore tips or advice? Thanks.
Do you drive the car hard? Do you do clutch dumps? Do you slip the clutch up a lot of hills? If the answer to these is NO and you only took it in for the clutch buzz and not for a clutch slip issue, with only 21K miles, I'd say your flywheel is fine. The techs had to have done at least a visuaul inspection when they had the clutch apart. A heat checked flywheel is pretty obvious even to a doofus mechanic.
OH and i would like to add one thing my friend had a DSM and needed a clutch. Well he thinks i am a crappy mechanic so he took his car to a cheapo mechanic. Well two months later clutch is gone again, we pulled it and guess what the flywheel was burned all to hell, and i have reason to believe he didn't have it resurfaced. So he ended up buying another flywheel clutch.
The car has had no real abuse of the drivetrain. It is driven spiritedly once in a while, but that's about it. No clutch dumps, no slipping of the clutch, nothing out of the ordinary. So how can I tell if the flywheel needs to be resurfaced now that the new clutch disc is installed? Will the clutch feel weak or slip? Any way to test this theory by driving around, or do I have to take the drivetrain apart to tell for sure? Thanks for all the help so far guys.
