Default front brake caliper dust boot

Just found a hole in one of my front caliper dust boots. The rebuild kit is inexpensive so I want to see if I can replace it without actually removing the caliper piston. Kinda looks like it could be doable but I'm not sure.

Anyone done this?

I ended up just buying iy from the dealer - the shipping charges for such a small item make it a break-even scenario...

I may have found a pattern. I have always used shims with the pads. I think this might be transferring the heat. I shall find out next time I am out.

Mine just had a big hole torn in the boot. It's pretty tough so I guess I trapped it when I switched pads at some point. Always used the shims with no known problems...
