Default fuel cut off in neutral?

yesterday, while parked and in neutral, i went to rev my car for a friend so he could hear my new exhaust, and when i hit about 6k it seemed to cut off completely as if i hit the redline/limiter.

normal? the car was fully warmed up, and normal. it scared the crap out of me, i thought i broke something!

It must have not been warmed up, that is our protection for hitting high rpms with low oil pressure.

Yes, the engine was cold. But it's not a great idea to rev the engine up high in neutral anyway.

Yea, engine should be under load when reving up high, otherwise you could potentially bend a connecting rod amongst other things.

good to know that it was meant to happen.
