Fuel indicating problem
Recently my fuel indications have started to become erratic. The reading will be let's say 3/4 full on shutdown but on start up it will indicate more, up to and including full. After running for a short while the indication will return progressively to what I would imagine to be the correct amount. Just yesterday after a fill up and a leisurely 110 mile drive I shut down the car with one bar over half full. After restarting I realized that some good samaritan had come by and filled my tank again for me. What a fathers day!
Anyone else seen this before? I called the dealership this morning and have an appointment later in the week to get it fixed.
Thanks
Pat

based on your location, it might be related to the Shell Gas issues from last year. Shell gas was eating the gas gauge inside the tank. Shell will reimburse you if it is related to their bad gas. affected states were, LA, AL, MS and FL, IIRC.
good luck
good luck
Actually the car is smart. It display the fuel level based on the current estimated driving. I belive it resets to a static level when the car is turned on. There is a computer in the Speedo display that handles these calculations.
My solution for this problem on the last two cars that I owned that "made fuel" was to remove the gas cap before I started the car and let the excess fuel come out.
At first, the neighbors complained about the constant smell of gasoline. But as the price of gasoline increased at the pump, there always seemed to be a neighbor standing their with a fuel can to catch the fuel each time I opened the fuel cap to let the excess gasoline out. Boy, what good neighbors.
Eventulally, I just couldn't put up with always having to dump the extra gasoliine and sold the cars to some "sucker" (I think they said they were from Mars (northern CA, I think?) or somewhere like that).
