Default Fuel Injector

This is not for the S2000, but for a Chevy 1500 series pickup.

Does anyone know how much fuel injectors are supposed to cost? My friend got a quote for $550 to replace one injector and to clean the rest. Does that sound fair?

she's getting the regular market price. you could save her a lot of money if you want to do it yourself.

a new injector from the GM dealer will be around $120 (I just did the ones on my step dad's 00 buick century, they were $126 each). so she'll need one. as for the injector cleaning. they aren't going to take them out with a toothbrush or anything to clean them, they will just run a can of injector cleaner through the fuel rail which is burn up some of the carbon deposits. You drain the fuel pressure from the fuel rail, hook up the can, and run the car off of it for about 5 minutes. An oil change place will do it for $50.

You are looking at probably around 6 hours or so of labor (it look me a little longer then that on the buick, but if I had done it before on the buick i could of done it in 6, it took me about 9 hours my first time working on this car).

labor is $60 an hour, so 6 hours is $360, 1 injector is $120, and to run the cleaner is $50. You'll also need a new throttle body gasket and a plenum gasket, about $30 total. So that is $560, near the dealer's estimate.

this is something you could really do yourself if you know what you are doing.

You will take off the intake, and the intake manifold, and a few vacuum hoses. Then move them to the side, leave as many vacuum hoses and eletrical connectors connected as possible. just move the intake manifold to the side for now. then you will unbold the fuel rail, take out the injector, put some motor oil on the top and bottom o ring seals on the new injector, and then put it on the fuel rail, then bolt the fuel rail back on and put everything back together. when you take out th einjector, some fuel will come out unless you relieve the fuel pressure. not a big deal, it'll only be about a cup or so of fuel.

Squeezer, thanks for the info. That helped a lot. He is not too mechanically inclined, so I don't think that's something he would do on his own. But at least I know that's a normal shop price to fix it.

hecash: As far as I know, one injector is getting replaced and the rest are getting cleaned.
