my 02S has about 44,000 miles on it.
i have recently done some maitenance work on it.
i thought about using fuel injector cleaner to clean out the fuel system.
is this okay or should i do something different.

Some say it's not necessary to use any injector cleaner, however, we can't always be sure of getting good quality fuel during the lifetime of the car. I put in a bottle of injector cleaner at every oil change interval as a "maintenance" dose.
Actual "cleaning" should only be done when you suspect there is something wrong with them. It's better to maintain than it is to have to clean them out.
