Gear shifter stuck down
I have the factory manual for the S, however I am not sure what is causing this problem.
For a while, I would put the shifter into reverse, and after I had to manually pull the shifter back up so that it would not go back into reverse while shifting into 6th on the highway.
Now, I cannot even pull the shifter back up. The shifter is stuck down permanently. Has anyone fixed this problem themselves before? By looking at the manual the only part I can see being the problem is the spring just under the shift lever.
If anyone can shed some light it would be of great help! I am scared of shifting into reverse by accident.

I'm guessing you have a stock shifter, and not the short shifter.
Disassembly of the shifter isn't very hard, pull it apart and see if anything jumps out at you. Here's the DIY for the short shifter install, but the first part is the part that will be relevant to you.
