Default header bracket bolt stuck!

ok so i get down to yanking off my header tonight to start the greddy kit install...

i have all the header nuts off at the top and both spring bolts out of the cat. the only thing left to pull off is this bracket that attaches to the side of the block...

yea it wont come off. i have been cranking at this thing for an hour and it WILL NOT loosen up. at first i gave it a good crank with a breaker bar and things went smooth for about 3 turns after that... now it is stuck again and it just refuses to move. what is the deal? i did a little search and it seems nobody else has had a big problem with this. in fact most installs dont even mention this bracket at all!

someone chime in and help. thanks much

your problem might be that you decided to loosen it last, by doing that you have put all the weight (or part of it) of the header on that bolt, so while turning it the bolt might have misaligned....

I wouldnt ever use a breaker bar on an aluminum block. chances are part of the bolt was seized, and the breaker bar was strong enough to shear the aluminum threads off the block and they are stuck to the bolt. If this happens at the deep part of the bolt, then you have aluminum gunk in the threads thats trying to back out through the threads that mate with the part of bolt closer to the head.

If this is teh case, you should be able to tight the bolt back up pretty easy (or alteast easier)... but it still wont want to come back out past a point.

I accidently put a wrong starter bolt into my prelude that was too long and it threaded in to deep into the part of the hole thats not threaded, grabbed some some block material that stuck in the threads of the bolt and it was a bitch to get out. I basically forced it out, and re-tapped the threads afterwards. the tip of the bolt had the threads filled with aluminum.

anyways, good luck, hope thats not the case for you!

luckily i was not fighting with a bolt that was stuck in the block - it was on another piece of the bracket that was on the block. i did not hurt the block at all (nor would i ever try to risk it!)

in my case it worked out. the bolt sheared in half and let the header fall off the bracket. no problems

aside from that on a side note my install has been seamless so far! in 3 hours we managed to put on the manifold, turbo, downpipe, all gauges and sensors, oil relocation, intercooler, and some piping. i had to stop and goto work though

hopefully tomorrow brings more good news and less broken bolts!
