Default header installed ?

i just installed my header and i was wondering what is that bar with bolts on top of where the header mounts to? that probably the best description i could give. i wanted to know because if i could take it out i would.

it mounts on the engine bracket. there is a piece that comes off the stock header that attaches to the header. its kinda tricky to fit right, just try a couple of different positions with the bracket and it will go on.

A picture would have been nice, but I think I have one. You talking about this:


It's called the cylinder head side cover and under it is a gasket. If you remove that thing, you'll have a very large hole in your head. I'm not sure why it's there, but I don't think it would be a good idea to remove it.

It's a cover plate for the air injection ports. If you remove it, you'll have 4 open holes direct to the exhaust ports. Expect to see some flames/fireworks coming from them if you run the engine with the cover plate off.

Bumping this old thread for more info on this piece. Is it necessary for an FI application? Why is it made like this in the first place?

It's made that way so they can machine the injection ports.
