Don't get one unless you are going FI. Or have money to burn.

am thinking about going FI (vortech) in a couple of months or so. with that said, how much more HP gain can I get with the 4.57 gear as compare to a FI car without the gear.

You don't gain HP by changing your gearing. You're gaining a mechanical advantage in torque delivered to the wheels.

going from the stock 4.1 to a 4.57 will result in 10.3% more torque to the wheels.

I was under the impression that the torque % dosent change, it just lowers the RPMS that you have max torque, making it more drivable.

Headers such as dc sports are all about being lighter. As for spoon and other jap tuners, maybe email spoon for dyno/hp gains on chart?

Wheel torque

Stock (4.1) = 153 lb/ft * 3.133 (1st gear) * 1.16 (2nd reduction gear pre-04) * 4.1 = 2224.18 lb/ft
4.57 = 153 lb/ft * 3.133 * 1.16 * 4.57 = 2541.12 lb/ft

So, the gears do give you more torque...wheel torque.

Cheap ones like DC Sports are not worth it.

Headers from top JDM tuners, like Mugen, Spoon, Toda, Amuse, J's Racing are well worth it, especially if used in conjunction with a good intake/exhaust.

xviper,
how much does the gear (4.57) cost. where is the best place to get it? and what are the advantage and disadvantage of getting --let say a 4.57 gear.

Thanks for helping the member out. I've been away at the HQ meet.

Also, keep in mind that the 4.57 gears can be NOISY! Depending upon the installation, they can be tolerable to DEAFENING! But they will make more noise than what you have been accustomed to.

This was probably one of the most inciteful chats I've read.
A SC sounds nice but $5-$7 is very high for a future grad student. Maybe when i'm done with school.
Comptech intake and exhaust should be ok for now.
Thanks for knowledge jedi-masters
