Default Headlight not staying lit

Having a problem with the headlights in my new S2000.

When I switch them on, they both come on, though after 5-10 minutes, the drivers side one just goes out. If I then switch them off and back on again it will start working straight away. It's the round HID type bulb only.

Is this a sign that I need a new bulb, or something else?

swap the bulbs and see if the problem goes to the other side. If not then it's your HID ballast.

I have seen HIDs go on, then off.

There was moisture bridging the printed circuit of the ballast.

Took them apart, dry with compressed air, seal the water entry point, 100% cure.

Moisture enters the ballast through the braided wire cover. Remove the clamp for the braided cover and pull it back, you'll see two wires that go into a rubber bushing. Seal these wires with silicone then slide the braided cover back on and clamp.

Your bulb is probably shot. Swap them like suggested to rule out a ballast issue though. And always replace HID bulbs in pairs. These bulbs color-shift over time and lose output and you want your new bulbs to match up so replace them both at the same time, always.

Stick with Philips 85122+ D2S bulbs too. They are 4300K and offer the most output at night. Stay away from any bulbs over 5000K.

My mechanic's had a look at the car whilst I've been on holiday, it turns out it's the bulb. He's quoted me £90 for a genuine one from Honda, though I'd rather not pay that, especially for a pair.

I've found the Philips bulbs here for £60 for the pair. Just want to check that's what I need and I'll get two ordered. http://www.hids4u.co.uk/philips-d2s-...ulb-85122.html

Used ballasts show up on Ebay all the time or you can get some OEM quality ballasts off of theretrofitsource.com
