Default Heater Controls NOT Functioning and ABS light on??

Hey all,

I’ve searched high and low but no luck for this issue. I recently bought an 03 S2K bone stock with 63k miles.

The car was driven by the previous owner but barely 10k miles in the last 10 years.

The ABS light came on when I was test driving the car but it turned off several minutes later before I got to tell the previous owner so I didn’t think anything of it.

I end up detailing the car interior last week by pulling the seats like I always do and lightly spraying the entire engine bay to make it look new again.

Fast forward to a few days ago, the ABS light comes back on and I notice there are no heater controls working at ALL. The faint light illuminates all the functions with headlight switched on but nothing responds to being pressed. The up/down fan does nothing, the A/C and air circulation does nothing. I can’t even test the DCT per the manual because the air circulation button does not light up at all.

I checked the fuses underneath the driver dash foot area with a multimeter and all beeped. I checked the blower motor relay and the three 40A fuses as well next to the relay. I’m going to double check them tomorrow also but I’m running out of ideas.

For the ABS… I jumped 4 and 9 terminals on the OBD port and got 54, 61, 81. I can try resetting the fault by whatever procedure the manual says but it seems like something wonky is going on.

Maybe I sprayed water where I shouldn’t have or I loosened up a wire under the dash/engine bay?

There have been 2-3 people with similar issues and of course no one said what it ended up being.

Someone who had a similar issue with the heater controls said it was the actual heater control unit so I might give that a try. I just want to make sure both issues are not related in any way so I’m not chasing my tail.

Let me know your thoughts!

Thanks as always!

Since 99% of the people with this problem never followed up on their own thread, I will share the fix here to hopefully help a homie in the future!

It was the two twin relays above the white plug on the righter section of the driver foot well area. I’ll try to upload photos. Someone from the fb group had this exact issue and ended up FaceTiming me and he told me exactly where it was. Came in clutch!! That’s all folks!

Hey Chuck

I got them at my local AutoZone for $16.99 each. Everywhere else had to order them or couldn’t order them. Pretty basic relay you can order online also.

The ones I bought you can see in photos were Duralast part # 19283
