HELP! Big end blown
Hi All
First ever post on hte forum so hi everyone.
I've purchased a silverstone S2k a few months back with 81k on the clock and FHSH it looked and drove as would expect, a constatnt smile on the face and wondering how on earth you keep within the speed limits.
I was driving home from work on wednesday night, the engine temeperature was the normal 3 bars and was idling fine. Then when i accelerated from the lights, after 3k rpm this metalic noise appeared, i thought something may have been in the fan so i carried on driving home. Yep big mistake, the noise became louder and louder even on idle now.
I had a pretty good idea at this point that it was most certainly coming from the engine and it wasn't good.
I brought a friend around who is a mechanic, he immediatley diagnosed it as the big end has gone and I would be looking around 2k to fix it.
Does this sound a reasiltic cost for a rebuild pending further inspection to see the extent of the damage.
I was hoping you could share your advice on this topic and has anyone else rebuilt their engine lately.
If I am going to spend this type of money i would prefer performace upgrades, what can and should and I go for. I'd really appreaciate your help?
Thanks
Paul

Mine is almost halfway ..(more bars) then that when its all wormed up. I dont think 3 bars is norm.
Its going to cost alot if you scored the walls for you cant just put new pistons and rings in it. It will cost a pretty penny. Im just buying a built bottom-end for it will cost less then to have to fully rebuild a built one.
call inline pro and talk to them. They do that kind of work and do it well. They will give you a price right over the phone.

Did you ever check the oil level in the few months you've owned the car?
Did (or do) you see any other warning light on the dash light up, especially at idle?
£2000 ~ €2400 seems allright for a replacement F20.
If you can find one.
