Default Help diagnose this noise (searched :)

So I'm getting a semi-loud noise click / clank when:

1. When I take off in 1st or reverse from a complete stop (ALWAYS)
2. Sometimes when I lift the throttle abruptly in 1st 2nd sometimes 3rd
3. Accelerating briskly from a slow roll (no clutch involved)

I put the rear up on stands, crawled up under the driveline and had the fiance take off in first several times and the sound seems to be coming from the tranny just infront of the driveshaft. Thoughts?

Just bought the car, it's stock 2002 w/ 29k miles (has a 10yr 100k hondacare contract) and I just filled out the paperwork to get the Hondacare extended warranty transfered. When the paperwork goes through I plan on bringing it in to the dealer. I wanted to check with you guys first so they don't try and pull the wool over my eyes.

Thanks!

I initially thought it might be the axle nut since the symptoms match perfectly.... which is why I put the rear up on jacks to see where the noise was coming from. Didn't hear much from the rear wheel...

Maybe it only does it when on the ground?
