It may be out of adjustment , but you should just have it looked at before you start throwing money at it.

To tell you the truth you should look into the valve adjust first. I though it was my TCT at first then took it to my tuner and he readjusted the valves and the problem went away instantly. The ticking is still their like a deisel truck, but that is normal since my injectors are 880cc.

adjust your valves...and then see if it's still there.

if it is, then do a compression and leakdown test.

depending on the results, go from there.

if the sound comes on when you switch your car on then it is the timing chain tensioner. if it stays making the ticking sound then its something else because i had that problem and i changed the timing chain

you changed the timing chain, without changing the TCT...and the noise went away?

therein lies a clue...

What exactly would changing the oil do to stop a backfire? Don't just start throwing money at it. You need to troubleshoot the problem. I would try to figure out exactly what's ticking first.
