Default Help! How to repair stripped threads in frame?

The last time I had my oil changed, the mechanic stripped the threads in my frame where my X-brace attaches on one corner. I have no way of proving that they did it, so I'm on my own. Does anyone have any tips on repairing such damage?

Sounds like your going to have to rethread the hole.

You'll have drill out the hole to remove the crushed threads. Next retap the hole with the proper size tap.(get a new bolt before you do this so you dont go to big with the tap)

Then bolt everything back together. Thats how I'd do.

Anyone else?

I replaced the engine subframe, but I had a stud that broke off as well.

if you don't remove the brace, it will make a big mess. I took it to the dealer for an oil change, they took off the brace and they stripped the threads when then put it back in. I have since installed a drain plug with a valve so I no longer need to remove the brace, just connect a hose and let'er rip. I think I solved my problem tho. It looks like the bolts supplied with the X-brace were too short, so I just need to get a longer bolt that reaches up to the good thread that are left in the nut. Now finding that correct bolt a socket cap screw M10x1.25 X 50 is proving to be difficult. Any got any sources for such bolts?

You may want to consider putting using a Heli-Coil to replace the stripped threads. A kit comes with special tap and stainless steel thread inserts that thread into an oversized hole. I used to use them all the time on aluminum motorcycle engines/frames and such where threads were easilly stripped
