Default Help Please Banging Noise

After a lil spin last week I have replaced the passenger side rear alloy, hub, lower wishbone and suspension.

Now when putting it into gear or changing gear I hear a "thud" so I looked under the car and the drive shaft seems to be loose.

Does the drive shaft just sit in the rear diff? or is it held in some how? as the drive shaft legs seem very loose when it sits in the rear diff and has alot of play

Would be great if someone could help me out so I can finally get the car back on the road

Though I don't have first-hand experience, some recent posts indicated an inordinately high amount of play in the S2000 driveshaft. Are you talking about rotation, or front to back play?

Is the noise coming from the diff?

Drive shaft or half shaft? It sounds like you are describing the half shaft, so I'll assume that. Make sure all the bolts on the half shaft flange are tight against the diff output flange (60+ ft-lbs IIRC). Also, make sure that axle nut you replaced is down tight - 220 ft-lbs

With drive shaft you mean the output shaft?
These ones?

If so, they "float".
They are held in place by a circlip and are not really supported by a bearing in the diff.
The splines fit in the side gear in the Torsen.
That circlip sits in the little groove in the middle of the splines.

Rotational or up & down?

All of this was not there before the lil' spin?
If not, then it was probably caused by it, or by the install of the parts.

i have ben given this informaion which sounds about right.

"the tripode joint if it is the inner end that's got the play. You've usually got three wheels with needle rollers in them & they can fall out"

does anyone have anymore information?

IIRC you can get the tripods (spiders) seperatly.

I hope this helps you.
