Default Hood will not release - Tried everything

I've found several threads on this & followed their instructions. Here is what I've done:
  • Hood release in cabin pulls but has less restriction - Hood does not release
  • Was able to find the cable going to the latch itself, determined the metal wire is still connected, not just the plastic sheathing. Pulled on that wire & it pulls as normal but then stops, nothing happens. I've pulled really hard on this thinking it was just stuck. No luck.
  • I've used a screwdriver to press around up near the latch & at the same time pull the wire. No luck.
I'm at a loss & I'd rather not take it to a shop unless I really have to. I can't really see what parts of the latch to mess with in order to free the hood. It could just be really greased up & stuck.

Does anyone have experience with this or next steps? Every other post I read, had the hood pop open with one of the previous steps taken.

Thanks,

after removing the splash shields, can you go up from underneath? are the bolts for the actual latch mechanism reachable?

Yes. The bolts are visible & I do believe they are reachable with a wrench. I was thinking possibly undoing all of them & then pushing the hood up from the bottom. Has anyone ever done this? This is probably my next step if there are no better suggestions.

I had to do it this way. I had removed the catch to clean and lubricate. I put it back in place but did not re-attach the cable and closed the hood (like a dummy).

Jack the front of the car up as high as you can and put it on stands. You should be able to get to the bolts without removing the splash shields. Its not fun, but it will work.
