A huge +1 for the Lisle funnel. Takes all the guess work out.

Another +1 for the Lisle funnel (got it off Amazon for $25). Just did the coolant change on my 2005. I'm pretty sure the previous owner never did it since I couldn't find any mention of it in the records that were given to me. The old coolant still looked very good, but it's most likely 11 years old by now.

Just drain, fill, install the funnel and run your engine for ~15 mins or so. I did have to rev the engine to get the radiator fans to kick on and watch all of the air bubbles gurgle out while waiting for the heater to get hot.

Is there any reason to use the front bleeder valve if you're using the Lisle funnel?

the front bleeder is just for use when the car is off (otherwise you're introducing air into the system again)- it would appear the lisle funnel technique is for use while the car is running. So, that being said, the front bleeder should not have to be used. I won't be trying the funnel technique for 3 years when i need to do the coolant change again.

I'd say the funnel gets 95% of the air, but to get that last little bit, you still have to crack that bleeder open for a split second, if coolant immediately comes out you're done.

Thanks for the write up Darcy. I struggled a bit, and ultimately ended up attaching about 2 feet of clear tubing to the rear bleeder on the firewall and used a large syringe to dump coolant into the tube. Once the coolant started to back up into the tube (it took quite a bit), I opened the front bleeder until coolant without air burped out. When pouring it in the rear bleeder, have the engine off, front bleeder closed, and radiator cap on. I did a little bit of squeeze the hose, burp the front bleeder, run the car with the heat on, etc. prior to trying this, but I think this helped a lot, since the rear bleeder is the highest point in the system, and thus, the best place to burp the air. Good luck, have fun, and be prepared to make a mess your first time around.

And yes, I just ordered one of the fancy funnels for the next time.

Is there a subject entitled: "How to post photographs on s2ki for DUMMIES"?

Did this a few months ago using the instructions. Way quicker and easier than I expected with no issues.

i have used this funnel on many s2000 without one issue and never touching that front bleeder at all, i have never had any problems at all on any of the cars with air trapped in the system at all.
