Just sold my M5 and looking for a fun toy. I like the looks of the s2k but can't live with the base hp and lack of torque. I have seen several out there in ebay land advertising blowers. I used to have a blown mustang cobra and love the results that forced induction brings.
Questions ???
Does a blower help much with torque?
Does it lower/widen the power band any or does it make it peakier?
Is it streetable as a daily driver?
Are there any ill effects from the increased power on clutch, drvetrain, rear?
Are there any ill effects to the engine or reduced engine life?
Welcome to the site. Let me warn you of the coming posts telling you to use the search function. These are all very common questions.
1. SC will not help much with low end torque. These systems make power at higher rpms.
2. It will widen slightly but a car with this displacement simply is not going to make alot of torque.
3. Yes there are quite a number of people who daily drive on SC'd S2ks.
4. The clutch isnt the typical weak part of the drive train although if your pushing decent power it never hurts to go with a new clutch setup. The weak point on this car is the differential. If you do not treat your diff with respect you will break it.
5. This would depend greatly on the amount of boost you plan to run. I'm sure someone can step in and tell you what the sane range is.
Welcome. As mentioned above, the search function is your friend. You will find the answers to all of your questions...and then some.
As far as how much to boost, that depends on how much $$ you're willing to part with. I def wouldn't recommend more than 9-10 psi on stock internals. Not worth the risk IMO.
I wouldn't get hung up on numbers. Drive a stock S2000. See what you think. I can tell you we got over 50% more hp and almost 50% more torque after the Comptech s/c install(aftercooler and 7 lbs pulley). It's a noticeable difference.
Yes, you should replace the PP before doing the s/c install. It is even more tedious after it is installed. I have 4.57's, so I can't help you there, but others have run charged with no problem so long as you use common sense.
Definitely streetable.
The higher you rev, the more you get. Here is the dyno sheet from last week when we tried to tune with a VAFC. Stock injectors, copper plugs.
