Default How much oil burning is acceptable?

How much do Ap1 motors typically burn per 1000 miles and how much more do they burn if they are driven hard daily? My car is low milage and I never had this issue.
I recently did an oil change on a friends s2000 and he as over 140k on the odometer. He was telling me he has been driving it pretty hard lately and the oil level is at 75%. Id say he driven 800-900 miles in total. The car runs great other than the oil consumption.
I am just curious as to how much they use on average. It would be great if you can post your engine milage too.

I doubt there's any discernable average. But 1 quart every 1k miles isn't anything to lose sleep over.

It also depends on oil brand and weight and driving habits (not just flooring it either). People who make short trips or let their car idle to warm up will tend to have engines that consume more oil.

Tell your friend to try using Castrol Edge 0W40 to see if it improves his issue.

My MY00 AP1 burns between...no oil and like a half quart every 2K miles depending on a few things. Highway use tends to use it up sometimes. But I've also done a track day and a Chicago to LA and back trip without using a drop.

I used Castrol 5w30. Next time we will try to switch it up and see if it helps. He drives in 4th and 5th gear on the highway a lot to stay in the powerband.

P.s we should have a s2k meet next season. I see you are local

If your o2 sensor makes your oil smell like fuel, you could be "adding" oil.

Lol...this statement takes a little bit to grasp. But yes. If your car is running way rich all the time, it will put fuel into the oil.

However, that fueled up oil is more likely to make it past the rings.

Some cars experience more rapid oil burn after ~5K miles on the oil. Oil breaks down, and gets diluted, and starts burning off.

I always discourage short tripping, excess idling, or idling a car to warm it up.
