Default How to replace bulb in gauge assembly?

Could anyone tell me how hard it is to take out the gauge assembly? I have to replace a bulb, and I am really hoping that I won't have to lower the steering column, remove airbag, etc... as the manual describes.
thanks

The Manual has it right, there isn't any shortcut.

you don't have to do what the manual says. take out the covers above the guage (one on each side) and then with a "stubby" phillips screw driver take out each screw. then you just pull the whole thing forward and it'll come out. you have to rotate it a little and stuff and force it a little to get it up and over the steering wheel but it'll go. then unhook all the wire harnesses and take it out. then flip it over, unscrew the guage assembly, replace bulb, put it all back together. then put it back in. there is a metal bar that the bottom of the guage clister trim goes into, and the top of the steering column plastic gets in the way (The plastic around the wiper lever), but if you get a flat head screw driver, you can pop it out (4 clips hold it in) and then slide in the guage panel and get all the clips to snap in, and then put back on that plastic piece ontop of the steering colum.

The service manual has you lower the column not to scratch any plastic trim.
