That sounds like karma!! Is the AEM designed in a way that allows water to pool like that easily? I have the fujita CAI and I seem to think the way the filter is attached would prevent water from gathering from dripping through the hood.
Yes, I recall reading that the filter points upwards when fitted, which allows water to puddle in the intake. If the filter pointed downward it should be fine unless submerged/high RPM.

Remember, it takes really little water to "plug" a cylinder. Our engines are 2.0L +/- 0.2,

divide that into 4 cylinders and the air we move is 500cc per cylinder. there is an airgap at TDC or 500cc , multiply that with 0.117 (compression ratio) = ~ 60cc.

If we get even 60 cc of water into ANY of our cylinders kiss it goodbye.

I've been asked to share more information about plugging the hood drain hole which leads to the CAI air filter.

This issue is more prevelant on AEM V2 since the filter is tilted upwards which allows the water to accumulate in the elbow of the CAI, so when you turn on your car after leaving it outside in a rainstorm, it will injest the water in the elbow in one shot and hydrolock.

Also it's easy to create a shield out of a old plastic flowerpot or bucket.

The V2 has a drain now. They don't puddle water. I've run mine for about 85k without issue.

^ ^ ^ ^ That wont help much with immersing the filter in the water, but it will help keep it dry in the rain. The Injen i was told has a bypass filter but obviously it either doesnt or is not reliable enough.

have you called insurance? mine let me claim flood damage, not-at-fault comprehensive. $500 for a new (used) engine swap.

My little contribution, just starting the engine when it rained on the car. I was parked on the driveway. Result driveshaft broke in two pieces, thank you Mister AEM.
